Spring into Action!
Spring arrives in a few short days; it's time to put away that heavy winter wear and greet the new warmer weather. Along with the new season you might want to start a new routine or freshen up an old one. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Many people tend to add a few pounds in the winter, so it's important to get your metabolism going! Always eat a good breakfast. Many studies have proven that people who eat breakfast burn more calories throughout the entire day.
- A daily twenty-minute weight lifting routine will speed up metabolism and increase muscle mass, helping burn more calories. Are you looking for a challenge? Try using slightly heavier weights. The body adapts quickly, regularly increasing the weight you’re lifting is a simple way to continue challenging yourself.
- Get at least seven to nine hours of sleep each night, it helps metabolize food more efficiently during the day.
- Worn-out soles can lead to injury, so check your walking or running shoes. Think about getting yourself a pedometer while you're at it!
- Drink water! For maximum weight loss, you should drink at least eight glasses of water each day and four to six ounces of water for every 15 minutes of exercise.
- Go outside and enjoy the season! Walking is a great stress reducer. University researchers found that both fast and slower-paced walking will increase weight loss, especially around the stomach area.
After a long winter of reduced activity or inactivity, it's exciting to get outside and train. You may want to exercise at the same level you did at the end of the last season, but if you changed your routine for the winter, be sure to pay attention to what your body tells you.
