Avoid Winter Weight Gain
Recently a poll of 5,000 people found that 30 percent get
NO exercise during the winter months! Cold temperatures, snow, and grey skies this time of year may make hibernation look like a good option, but if you want to maintain your weight and overall health, it's important to stay active throughout the winter months.
Here are 10 tips to stay fit, and happy, during the winter months:
- Exercise, exercise, exercise!
-
Make sure you have an indoor place to exercise. Set up space to exercise at home, or join a gym.
-
Get some sun. Even a short walk will brighten your mood!
-
Eat a healthy diet. Add plenty of fruit, vegetables and grains to your dietary regimen.
-
Get plenty of cardio exercise. That brisk walk in the sun will help.If weather makes this difficult, do a half hour or so on a treadmill or elliptical machine.
-
Find a workout or walking partner. This will help both of you stay more motivated.
- Get enough rest. Feeling run-down or depressed will strip away your motivation.
- Add a little variety to your program. Add a few new routines to your workout to keep your interest up.
