Women, Stress and High-Fat Meals

A new study found that  one or more stressful events the day before eating a high-fat meal can slow the body's metabolism for women, which could lead to weight gain! In the study, published in Biological Psychiatry, participating women were asked about possible stressful situations that occurred on the previous day.  The women were then given a 930-calorie meal that contained 60 grams of fat, after which the women's metabolic rate was measured. The research found that the women in the study who reported one or more stressful events during the previous day burned an average of 104 fewer calories in the seven hours after eating the high-fat meal  than the women who had not experienced a stressful event. That is enough to cause weight gain of almost 11 pounds in one year! Another reason to keep healthful foods nearby!
