Staying Mentally Sharp

Concerns about our ability to stay mentally sharp increase as we age -- two interesting studies provide information that should help alleviate those fears! In 1990,  test subjects between the ages of seventy and ninety were questioned about their levels of physical activity, with a follow-up that was conducted a decade later. Researchers found that less active participants scored two and a half times worse on mental ability tests than their more active counterparts! The study shows a direct link between inactivity and declining mental ability as we age! A different test done at Harvard -- involving different types of physical activities -- showed similar results. The American participants tended to walk while the Europeans bicycled more, but both studies reached the same conclusion. As we age exercise is just as good for your brain as it is for your body!
