Pregnancy and Summer Exercise

More and more research shows that exercise is a safe and valuable activity during pregnancy. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends that healthy pregnant women get in thirty minutes of exercise most days of the week. Other new research shows that even strenuous workouts are okay for women who were in good shape before getting pregnant. Expectant women do need to take extra precautions and hot summer days add extra concerns. You don't have to let those concerns get in the way of your healthy pregnancy.
  • Swim. It will cool you off and relieve some of the pressure caused by extra weight during pregnancy!
  • Wear breathable fabrics.
  • Carry a water-filled squirt bottle to cool yourself off when you feel warm.
  • Work out at the cooler times of day and do not exercise to the point overheating.
By staying physically fit throughout pregnancy, you can help prevent gestational diabetes, relieve stress, and help build the stamina required during labor and delivery! Talk to your doctor about the plan that’s right for you!
