Going for a Smooth Ride
Do you love cycling, but find yourself sore after a ride? It's a common complaint from regular cyclists. Take heart, little changes can make all the difference.
First, be sure to choose the the right frame! Get on the bike and stand flat-footed -- on a regular bike you should have at least two inches of clearance from the bar, on a mountain bike three or four inches. Be sure to position the seat so your knees are just slightly bent. If the seat is too low you'll have excess pressure on the knees and that can lead to problems. Make sure the handlebars are positioned an inch lower than the top of the seat. Picking the right seat is crucial! Proper padding will help you from getting 'saddle sore.' Finally, be sure to pick biking clothes that both fit and breathe well.
Spend some time with the specialist at the bike store to find the fit that is just right for you, it makes a huge difference!
