Diabetes and Fitness
Diabetes rates in the United States have sky-rocketed and it's important to reduce your chances of developing this destructive disease. Results from a recent study published in the
New England Journal of Medicine offer some important information.
Five hundred subjects were examined and given the following goals to lose weight.
- Limit fat intake to thirty percent of calories consumed.
- Take in less than ten percent saturated fat.
- Engage in moderate exercise at least thirty minutes a day.
The results were amazing! After four years the incidence of diabetes dropped sixty-four percent in men and fifty-four percent in women. Not one subject who achieved all of the goals developed diabetes! I can't think of a better reason to set goals -- and stick to them for the long haul!
